Gen-Xers with kiddos

We are Heath and Denise (the gen-Xers) and our kids are 6 year old Will and 5 year old Abby, both of whom we were blessed to adopt in March 2004 from Samara, Russia.

Abby's International Babies

One of Abby's new pretend games is adopting babies. She usually gets her shopping cart (as the fabric stroller got destroyed from playing) and tells me that she hasn't 'dopted her babies yet, and she is still in the airplane.

So a few minutes later, she returns with her babies in tow, telling me that she 'dopted her babies and is a mommy now. It is such a sweet little scenario to watch, because I can see what a positive attitude she has about adoption and how natural a part of her life it is.

This morning she put a slightly different spin on her 'doption game - I asked her where her babies were from and she told me that Jospeh (boy doll on the left) is from Guatemala and that Sally (girl doll on the right) is from China. I thought it was so sweet - we play often with other international adoptees and she is picking up on it!

Just the other day Abby asked me why Mimi is my mommy and so we had a talk about what mommies do to take care of their children. Later, she said, "Mommy, when you was a baby, Mimi 'dopted you and gave you milk to dwink?" I answered that I was born from Mimi's tummy and she seemed ok with that. Teaching our kiddos about how God forms families is really important to us and it is so fun to watch them grow in their understanding.
